Today is the first day of my brand new life.
Lloyd Dobler: I don’t want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don’t want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don’t want to do that. (Say Anything)
A surprise post from a blog I didn’t remember signing up for sent me to Colette Calascione’s website, where I encountered this:

While much of Calascione’s work is more surreal than this, I like this one, “Swimmer”, because it contains both the surrealism she employs to great effect, as well as a nod to past eras of art in the form of the Japanese print in the background.
You should go see the rest of her work and hope that she decides to do another show soon. Thanks to Meredith at Coilhouse!
I’d really like a mobile from Julie Frith or Edwin Alexander Loy.

When buying a mobile, take into consideration not just the mobile itself or the space its in, but also the light that will be shining on the mobile and casting a shadow. Where will the shadow be? Will it add to the room or will it be a lost opportunity? Also, mind the dimensions of the mobile and the light. A small mobile and a large light are as incompatible as a small mobile and large room.
I am pretty sure I have mentioned before how much I love the NPR All Songs Considered Live Concert recordings, where they plug into the mixer and you can actually hear everything, including that guy who had one too many Heinekens and is shouting WHOOOOOOO every two minutes. It’s like being at a real concert, only without all the Ticketmaster fees, smoke, and melodramatic fights in the lobby when drunk dude accidentally hits on someone else’s woman.
NPR’s All Songs Considered Concerts are now in podcast form through iTunes, as a result of their recent redesign. Favorites include the recent Stars tour, a brilliant Arcade Fire show, and the French Kicks. Sadly, not all of the concerts get to become podcasts. I’m especially sore about the Decemberists concert. Hopefully, the music industry will change its ways and see that we love live music — enough that we want to hear it any time we want, like, say, when we’re supposed to be editing that boring work document. Not that I would know anything about that.
I love that Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales’s prized possession is a flashlight. Granted, it’s a $400 flashlight, but it’s a flashlight nonetheless.
I am going to London in a few weeks for the annual hoedown that I co-organize. When I say London, I mean “the most expensive and yet taunting place on earth for shopping”. And when I say hoedown, what I really mean is three torturous days of suits and my best, conservative, tolerant, and can-do smile. Good times!
In an effort to avoid the temptations of shopping, I decided this should be the museum trip:
After London, I bought a ticket to see a friend in Slovenia for the weekend. The title of this post is the Slovenian Tourist Board’s slogan. Is “feel” an active verb?
