I am going to London in a few weeks for the annual hoedown that I co-organize. When I say London, I mean “the most expensive and yet taunting place on earth for shopping”. And when I say hoedown, what I really mean is three torturous days of suits and my best, conservative, tolerant, and can-do smile. Good times!
In an effort to avoid the temptations of shopping, I decided this should be the museum trip:
- I am looking forward to going to The Golden Age of Couture at the V&A Museum. I have finally begun to admit that I love the craziness and frivolity of high fashion and its history.
- I should probably get to the Tate Modern now that I’ve been to just about every other modern art museum in the world.
- I might go to the China’s Terracotta Army show in order to round out the museum experience if I’m able to get up early enough to get in line for a ticket. I’m not all that interested in China, but it seems unavoidable these days. I’ve been to the British Museum, which I find a little appalling as the museum of things Britain plundered.
- I tried to get tickets to see Ian McKellen play King Lear, but they sold out before I could get one. When I was in high school, I saw McKellen in a one-man show called Acting Shakespeare. I remember thinking that he was excellent and that I hated theater. I still hate theater–but I can rally to endure if it’s something I desperately want to see, such as the stage adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials in 2004.
After London, I bought a ticket to see a friend in Slovenia for the weekend. The title of this post is the Slovenian Tourist Board’s slogan. Is “feel” an active verb?
